4 Ways to Increase Your Prayer Life

ONE: Change Your Thinking

Sometimes when we pray we are optimistic, believing the Lord for everything we asked of Him. When we don’t see what we’ve asked come into fruition when we want it, we begin to get discouraged and waiver from what we’ve asked because we start to doubt and get impatient. Here are some scriptures that will help you change your mindset and way of thinking when praying.

  • Matthew 19:26 – With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.
  • Proverbs 19: 2 – Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes.
  • Psalm 27:14 – Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
  • Psalm 37:4 – Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
  • James 1:6 – But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
  • Numbers 23:19 – God is not a man that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

The scriptures above confirm for you that you can ask for whatever your heart desires according to the will of God. Nothing is too hard for God. So, don’t waiver from what you pray for trust and believe in Him at all times.

TWO: Download a daily prayer devotional app

As college students you are always on the go and your cell phone is usually attached to your hand. There are several applications you can download to your smart phone that will send you notifications of scriptures and prayers daily. This is an easy and effective way to increase your prayer life and begin reading the bible. When we pray we should always state scripture because the Lord hastens to perform HIS word, not ours. By reading the word we will know what scriptures we can use to support what we are praying for.

Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

– Jeremiah 1:12

Dear Lord Heavenly Father,

ADORATION

We come before you in the name of Jesus.  We give you all the glory Honor and praise for this is the day that you have made and I have made the decision to rejoice and be glad in it. You are the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, the same God yesterday, today, and forever more. And thank you and praise you for being the LORD of my life.

CONFESSION

For I know that if I confess my sins you are faithful and just to forgive me of my sins and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Therefore, Father please forgive me for holding a grudge against my sister for an entire week.  I know it is not good to hold grudges.

THANKSGIVING

I thank you Lord for the fact that I even have a sister, but lately she has been seeking my attention more than usual. Lord please reveal to me what she needs so that I can help her.  Father, I also know that the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein.

SUPPLICATION

Therefore, there is nothing that happens on the earth that you don’t know about nor allow.  My friend Kiesha has a problem lying. I’ve caught her in several lies and I know that lying is not of you.  I know that nothing is impossible for you and you can deliver her from that lying spirit.  So I thank you for revealing to me what’s wrong with my sister and delivering my friend from lying. These are all the things I ask in Jesus name. Amen.

FOUR: Find a prayer partner

A prayer partner is extremely important. You need someone who is going to hold you accountable. This person should be someone you trust and has the same beliefs as you. Prayer partners pray for each other and sometimes pray together. Your prayer partner is someone you can call on whenever you need to pray or uplifting.
