That’s probably a thought that’s ran across your mind before. It may not have come out of your mouth but I’m sure it’s been a thought. We all go through ups and downs, highs and lows, and during those times we can’t help but wonder, Lord why me? Do I really have to go through this? Is this really necessary?

Well, there is actually two answers to this question

ONE: NO, sometimes it’s really not necessary that you go through certain situations….

Sometimes we go through things because we put ourselves in situations we know good and well we aren’t supposed to be in…

Most of the time we do this out of…

  • Impatience
  • Impulse
  • Not seeking God first
  • Thinking we know everything
  • Etc.

Then after we put ourselves in these situations we want to know why God let us go through this…meanwhile it was US that allowed ourselves to go through it. So, to this point everything we go through isn’t necessary because sometimes it’s self inflicted. God didn’t intend for us to go through it, we did it to ourselves.

Now, I will say this…regardless of if it’s self inflicted or not everything we go through helps us build character, teach a lesson, etc. Well, at least it should!

Now, to the second answer

TWO: YES, there are some situations God puts us in to mold us and shape us. God knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows that there are some things He is going to have to show us better than He can tell us because we don’t listen…

So, sometimes He will allow us to go through to teach us a lesson, to be a living testimony for someone else or ourselves, to build our faith, to grow us up, to develop us, etc. There Are so many reasons why….

The only thing you can guarantee is if God takes you to it, He will bring you thought it.

So, before you ask yourself…OMG, why me? Think about this…was it you that put you in that situation or was it God? Did you decide to do something without consulting God first and now you’re all jacked up or are you going through what you’re going through because God is doing a work in you?

Are you doing what you know you should be doing when it pertains to the things of God, yet you are STILL going through? Sometimes that happens too…sometimes God will gracefully break us. My girl Tasha Cobbs explained it so well in her song “Gracefully Broken.” The lyrics say, “God will break you to position you, He will break you to put you in right standing, but when He breaks you He doesnt hurt you.”

There are also times where you will be going through something to be a testimony for someone else, what you are going through may have absolutely nothing to do with you. Often, we forget that our lives are NOT our own,  nothing is about us…it’s about fulfilling the Will of God.

With that being said, there are many reasons why you could be going through something. The best thing you can do is pray and ask God to guide you through…
